A 74-run partnership in an under-19 game can tell you plenty about Kerala cricket’s next line of talent.

At Thodupuzha, Prithika and Suryakeerthana did not just chase 121. They gave Palakkad a calm, grown-up win over Ernakulam in the KCA inter-district under-19 women’s tournament.

Across Kerala, the same story played out in different colours. Some teams won through discipline. Some rode one big innings. Some survived nervous finishes. Together, the day offered a useful look at where the women’s junior game is heading.

Palakkad find calm under pressure

Ernakulam batted first and reached 120 in 22.2 overs. It was not a huge score, but junior cricket rarely moves in straight lines.

Raina Rose held the innings together with 35. Rosan Antony and Shivani Suresh added 16 each. That gave Ernakulam something to defend.

Palakkad’s bowlers kept control through the middle overs. Jayadarshini took 3 wickets, while Nirupama Das and Nandana picked up 2 each. They did not allow Ernakulam to stretch the total.

The chase then belonged to Prithika and Suryakeerthana. Prithika made 40, Suryakeerthana scored 33, and their 74-run stand changed the match.

Palakkad reached the target in 24.5 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Anna Johnson took 2 wickets for Ernakulam, but the chase never fully slipped away.

This was the kind of win selectors quietly note. Not flashy. Not chaotic. Just enough batting sense, enough bowling control, and enough nerve.

Thrissur make it look simple

Thrissur produced the cleanest central zone performance of the day. They beat Idukki by 8 wickets, with 45 balls still left.

Idukki won the toss and batted first. They were bowled out for 122 in 24.1 overs. Sharanya Shivan made 39, while Ameya Santhosh added 32.

Those two innings gave Idukki a platform. But Thrissur kept taking wickets before the innings could grow teeth.

Dinika Dinesh led the attack with 3 wickets. Medha and Vedika took 2 each. That spread of wickets matters, because it shows depth beyond one main bowler.

Then captain Shreya P Siju finished the job with the bat. She stayed unbeaten on 54, playing the anchor and finisher together.

Parvathi Saleesh made 42, and Thrissur crossed the line with only 2 wickets down. For a captain, an unbeaten half-century in a chase carries extra weight.

It tells the dressing room that pressure can be handled without drama. In age-group cricket, that lesson can travel far.

Wayanad survive a tighter finish

The northern zone brought a proper scrap. Wayanad beat Kannur by 2 wickets at Palakkad Fort Maidan.

Kannur batted first and were bowled out for 96 in 24.2 overs. That looked modest, but low chases often become tricky.

Devananda was the standout bowler for Wayanad with 4 wickets. Theertha added 3, giving Wayanad control early.

But Kannur did not fade quietly. Their bowlers made Wayanad work for every run. Aritha took 3 wickets, while Theertha claimed 2.

Wayanad eventually reached 97 for 8 in 26.2 overs. Captain Swafya made 33, and Parvathi Kunjumon scored 21.

That may not sound like a batting masterclass. Yet in a chase under pressure, 33 can be more valuable than a stylish 70.

Young players learn different things from tight matches. Big wins build confidence. Nervy wins build memory.

Wayanad will take both the points and the lesson. They found a way through when the game became uncomfortable.

Malappuram and Alappuzha race through

Malappuram had no such tension against Kasaragod. They won by 9 wickets after chasing 83 in just 8.5 overs.

Kasaragod were bowled out for 82 in 24.5 overs. Majida, Vaiga, and Diya took 2 wickets each for Malappuram.

That sort of bowling card usually points to a team plan working well. No one bowler had to carry the attack alone.

The chase was swift and direct. Malappuram’s batters did not allow Kasaragod to imagine a comeback.

In the southern zone, Alappuzha also won by 9 wickets. Their match against Kollam was shortened to 20 overs a side because of rain.

Kollam made 86 for 6 in their 20 overs. Under the VJD method, Alappuzha’s target was revised to 90.

For readers less familiar with it, VJD is a rain-rule calculation. It adjusts targets when overs are lost, much like Duckworth-Lewis.

Alappuzha reached the target in 14.4 overs. Nila V Nair made 35, and A S Devi scored 28.

That partnership made the chase feel lighter than the target suggested. In shortened games, a quick start often settles everything.

Thiruvananthapuram show batting muscle

The biggest batting statement came from Thiruvananthapuram. They beat Kottayam by 59 runs in the southern zone.

Thiruvananthapuram made 187 for 3 in 30 overs. In this tournament context, that is a heavy score.

Ameera Beegum scored 77, while Urvashi made 69. Their innings gave Thiruvananthapuram the day’s strongest batting platform.

The score also changed the pressure on Kottayam. Chasing close to 190 in 30 overs needs both intent and calm.

Kottayam were bowled out for 128 in 25.5 overs. Jewel Jean John fought with 42, but the target kept moving away.

Subi Angel took 3 wickets for Thiruvananthapuram. Ishita Shani added 2, closing out a complete team performance.

This match matters because big totals are still gold in junior women’s cricket. They show batting ambition, not just survival.

For Kerala cricket, days like this are more than scorecards. They show which districts are building batting depth, which teams have bowling variety, and which captains can think under pressure.

The girls who made 30s, 40s, 50s, and 70s here may not become household names tomorrow. But this is where pathways begin. A district win becomes a zonal chance. A zonal performance becomes a state conversation. And for young cricketers across Kerala, that conversation is now getting louder.
